Over the past few weeks, the students have been reviewing the reading comprehension skills and strategies that we have been learning. The students are confident in making a plot prediction and are now working on explaining why they have made that prediction. (I think.....because....) We are also able to identify the characters, setting, and problem in the story and are now working on explaining the solution/ending to a story.
The green group read a story about a potato that needed many people to help harvest it. This lead to a science discussion and eventually to a science investigation: what happens to things under soil? We made several hypotheses regarding our composting investigation. The students put yogurt containers, juice boxes, fruit, crackers, and vegetables into a tub filled with soil. We will be watching the food over the next couple of weeks to see what happens.
