The BRAIN on TECHNOLOGY

The latest research on how technology affects the brain is revealing some worrisome results.

Psychology Today - Too-much-screen-time-DAMAGES-the-brain!

medscape - Medical Article

A simple guide from medical research experts to help parents in minimizing negative effects of screen time:

1. Make bedrooms technology-free zones

2. Set a screen time curfew

3. No technology at the table during meals

Healthy social-emotional development and self-regulation skills are key components to happy, successful children. Technology does not and can not teach these.

FINAL NEWS FLASH!

We have been celebrating all our summer birthdays this month along with those on the corresponding dates in June.  Now that we are in the final days of school, and to avoid missing anyone's special day, we will celebrate all the remainder birthdays this week.

We will sing Happy Birthday to each birthday boy or girl and send them down to the office to get their birthday pencil.

Please send any summer birthday invitations prior to the last day of school.
(This last week is crazy busy with lots of things going home, so invitations often go missing.)

REPORT CARDS

Final report cards go home on Tuesday, June 28th. The last day students attend is Wed. June 29.         (The first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept.6, 2016)

Just a reminder that the grading scale is based on a developmental key

A 'DE' indicates that your child is "developing as expected", which means meeting the Kindergarten program expectations as outlined by the Ministry of Education.

Children who are demonstrating skills (< in class) that are significantly above ministry standards would merit a WD’, which signifies “the skill is well developed."

'BDindicates that a child is “beginning to develop” the skill in question and requires further reinforcement.

'NTsignifies "needs more time and experience", as the skill or expectation in question has not yet begun to develop or is not being demonstrated at school.

 Have a wonderful summer!

  Thank you for your support.
   Sincerely,
   The Kindergarten Teams

FUN DAY next week!!

Holy Redeemer School
 Summer Play Day
Wednesday afternoon - June 8th

Weather permitting, we will be having a "Play Day" on Wednesday, June 8

The Kindergarten classes, along with students in Grades 1-4, will enjoy an afternoon of outdoor games. Grade 5 students will be our leaders and will be running the stations and assisting younger students.

Children are asked to wear sturdy shoes (no Crocs or flip-flops please for safety reasons) and lightweight clothing. They are also encouraged to pack a water bottle, hat and sunscreen.

We are looking forward to this wonderful afternoon. Hopefully the weather will agree with our plans!
