JUNE NEWS

Finally the weather is warming up and our inquiries will move increasingly outside. So please
ensure your child wears a hat and sunscreen every day

Senior Kindergarten students will start joining the older grades for afternoon recess
(1:30 to 1:45) in preparation for this Grade One routine. [*Additional teachers/ECE's will be on
duty in the main yard with the SK's to assist them with this transition.]  Junior Kinders will remain
inside at this time to enjoy small group activities.

June naturally invites discussions of summer/ l’été, with
a focus on insects, water safety, and summer activities.
We hope to help children develop a sense of awe and
respect for some of God's smallest creatures, an
awareness about water safety, and an overall appreciation
for the beauty and relaxation of our summer season.

The topic of animals always inspires wonder
and inquiry. This past month provided many
opportunities to explore and investigate
animals. Last week, we had a visit by
"Little Ray's Reptiles Zoo", which was
very exciting! The field trip to the
Museum of Agriculture was a true highlight!

Thank you again to all volunteers who made this

farm adventure a great success!

REPORT CARDS

Final report cards will be sent home the last week of schoolJust a reminder
that as listed on the developmental key, a 'DE' indicates that your child
is "developing as expected", = meeting the Kindergarten program
expectations as outlined by the Ministry of Education. Children who are
demonstrating skills (in class) that are significantly above ministry
standards would merit a WD’, which signifies “the skill is well-developed”.
'BDindicates that a child is “beginning to develop” the skill in question
and requires further reinforcement. A 'NTsignifies "needs more time and
experience", as the skill or expectation in question has not yet begun to
develop or is not being demonstrated at school. Information regarding
next year's entry will be included with the report card.
We will be celebrating summer birthdays this month along with those on
the corresponding dates in June. Please send any summer birthday invitations
prior to the last week of school.  (It is a busy time & invitations often go missing.)

We would like to extend our appreciation to all parents for their generous support throughout the year. Have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,
The Kindergarten Teams

On Friday, May 13th all the Kindergarten classes will be
visiting the experimental Farm – also known as the Museum of Agriculture, located on Prince of Wales Drive. This special event not only expands and enriches our animal discussions but also provides a firsthand experience of Spring and new life on a farm. We will depart from school at 8:45 am and return around 11:00 am.

The cost for this excursion, including admission and busing fees, will be provided by the Activity Fee fund. Due to time constraints, we will not be eating a snack; therefore we will leave school bags at school.

Please note that our excursion will occur regardless of the weather conditions since most of the tour takes place inside the barns. Please have your child dressed appropriately for farm conditions.

We are seeking lots of volunteers for this special trip and hope that many parents will be able to assist us. Parent volunteers are asked to drive to the farm to meet the bus in the main parking lot (off of Prince of Wales Dr.) at 9:00am. All volunteers will be supervising small groups; therefore we ask that you not bring younger siblings.

We ask that your child travel to the farm by bus with their classmates as this is a large part of the excitement of the “field trip” experience. Volunteers are required to pay a $1.00 admission fee (normally $9) – so please send it in beforehand to get this deal. All volunteers are welcome!

Please return the permission slip prior to Friday, May 6.
