Please take care --- NO NUTS!

A big thank you to all of you for the generous supply of kleenex boxes, ziploc bags, glue sticks, etc that you have donated to our classroom(s).  It is very much appreciated.

Thank you for providing information about your child on the forms that were sent home and for returning other paper work required by the office.

PLEASE BE AWARE:  Allergies:

We have several serious nut allergies in our classroom. We ask that you please ensure that no items containing nut products are sent in. Cross-contamination is also a concern, so if peanut butter is regularly used in your kitchen, please be extra cautious about sanitizing preparation surfaces.

Thank you in advance for helping to keep our classroom safe!

THANKSGIVING FEAST this THURSDAY!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

C:\Users\Chris\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\64K7Z2WI\thanksgiving[1].jpgWe will be celebrating Thanksgiving in our classrooms on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6th.

For this event we are asking each child to contribute a small container of CUT-UP fruit*.  Everything must be "bite-size" and ready to eat - please make the pieces an appropriate size for 3, 4 & 5 year old children to eat.

*Due to some fruit allergies, Red, Purple and Green Groups can not accept kiwi or mango this year. Blue Group does not have these allergies, so these fruits are acceptable for them only.

We mix all the fruit contributions in a large bowl, then say a prayer of thanks and finally enjoy the fruit salad feast!

Thank you for your donations in this regard and have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

Sincerely,
Your Kindergarten Teams

"POPCORN WORDS" TO KNOW

The English teachers will be covering numerous aspects of language development but the following list is a brief version of essential words that will be targeted over the two year  Kindergarten program.

HIGH-FREQUENCY WORDS FOR KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS are referred to as..
I     mom       dad       cat      dog      you

(These are some other words your child should learn to "read on sight" before Grade 1.)

do    a      to     we        me       he      she       see

on     my      in      it      is       love     the       said

that    this      go       out       have     they     little

FRENCH VOCABULARY FOCUS

Every few weeks, collaboratively the French teachers, Mme. Holland, Mme. Gibney, and Mme. Blahout will post a monthly French vocabulary list, which will be covered in class.  Any inquiry-based French words will be introduced on an individual group basis according to the inquiries that are going on in each classroom. Specific inquiry words may be tweeted on individual Twitter accounts. Otherwise there will be a general focus each month to build vocabulary and language skills.

Please encourage your child to "teach youFrench - - - as this is an effective strategy to motivate new learners.

Don't worry about their pronunciation or even if the words are correct; the first 'hurdle' is to simply attempt to speak a second language! (This, in itself, is important risk-taking.)  It is also very gratifying for little ones to be the teacher, for a change!

Here are some words & phrases we have already introduced (or are review for SK's) and some we will be focusing on over the next few weeks.

September and October

- Bonjour   / Aurevoir  / Salut
- Comment ça va?
- Ça va bien, merci.  / Merci
- Comment t'appelle-tu?

- L'Hallowe'en: (*not until the end of October)

Thank you, in advance, for any support offered at home in this regard.

                             WELCOME!                         BIENVENUE!
We are very excited to be your child's teachers this year.  Together, we are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning. Each class has a TEAM of facilitators made up of teachers, Early Childhood Educators (ECE), and possibly, an Educational Assistant (EA).  Also, the Office Administrator, Cathy O'Brien, our Resource teachers, Mrs Moss & Mrs.McCaffrey, and our Principal, Mr. Rodgers, all play important roles in your child's school life. You, the parent, are the most vital member of our TEAM.

We will be using this blog to communicate important information to you throughout the school year.  We will be posting information about events at school, monthly French vocabulary, special dates, and various reminders to ensure you are included in whatever is happening throughout the school year. We encourage you to please subscribe by email to the blog so you won't have to remember to visit in order to keep up-to-date, each posting of news will simply arrive.

Each class will also have a Twitter account where more specific learning inquiries, events, photos, news or creations will be posted. If you do not want your child's face to appear in our Twitter posts, please send a note clarifying this. [FYI: Our "followers" are the class' parents.]

This year we are introducing a new feature to keep you informed, it is a private app that will remind you by text message of any upcoming events at school. Details to follow.

We look forward to working with you and your child to foster a love for learning, and an intrigue for inquiry.  Above all, we are committed to ensuring that each child is aware that they are a “valued” member of our inclusive classroom community, each
with their own unique gifts and talents to share.

Please do not hesitate to contact us at the school at 613-591-3256 or send a note if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

the Kindergarten Teams

WHEN DOES MY CHILD START SCHOOL in Kindergarten ??

This is to clarify WHO comes to school oSEPT 6
We expect all Senior Kindergarten students to start school on Tuesday, Sept.6.  Students will line-up at the side of the school near the Kindergarten doors, where we will have colour-coded class lists posted.

Junior K students who attend the EDP (school daycare) start regular attendance on Wednesday, Sept 7th.
The remainder of the JK's  are expected to start on Thursday, Sept 8th, unless you were given a different date.

Initially teachers will meet the buses to greet & escort our new JK's, so please send your child on the bus if that will be their regular method of arrival(This helps develop the comfort level for this routine right from the start!)

Classes are divided by colour; REDBLUEGREENPURPLE.

There will be lists posted for each class,
indicated by colour. There will also be coloured "pylons" & frizbies to mark where each group lines-up.

Please do NOT leave your child at school any earlier than 8:15 - when a "duty-teacher" (wearing an orange/yellow vest) is present.
{*Daycare staff are ONLY responsible for their designated daycare students!}
Please note: All JK bus students will be assigned to an older student from their bus (Gr. 5 or 6) to regularly escort them to the yard on a daily basis. They must hold hands while walking.

SAFETY FIRST!
Due to the lack of fencing around the yard, after Thursday, Sept. 8, we will be asking all parents to say "Good-Bye" to their child at the double-painted lines on the west-side of the school (beside the park). Staff will be enforcing this rule as a safety precaution to train students to identify any potential "stranger" in their midst on the yard.  Teachers and school staff are the only adults permitted on school property between 8:15am - 3:15pm. Thank you for your kind understanding in this regard.

We are looking forward to meeting all our Kindergarteners and starting the new 2016-2017 school year!  Enjoy your holiday weekend!

The Kindergarten Teams
